Day 5 - June 16th
Wow! I'm done with TTL4 workshop. It's hard to believe - the days have flown by. In some ways I wish I was here tomorrow because I like what is on the agenda. I'm sorry that I won't be seeing the unit movies. The talent and creativity in this group is amazing. I wish I could bottle it. I also want to say thanks to everyone - your support is amazing! Thanks also for the extra time. Could you sense the relief in many of us?
Take-aways:
1) doing an imovie is easier said than done but its done and actually I feel pretty good about it.
2) time is going by too quickly
3) I need to practice using Adobe Acrobat
4) The TTL4 web site is great!
5) Tim is wickedly witty
6) I need to pay attention - I missed the Debbie Cunningham Learner nomination
What I learned Friday
1) How to access Atomic Learning and it has potential.
2) Don't click to block the websites or Adobe Acrobat or you are hosed.
3) My videocamera will work with our iBook - it just needs a firewire. Thanks Sally!
5) I won't be able to learn how to use my videocamera and put clips in imovie before the end of the workshop.
6) My brain is really full but happy.
7) I could and did learn everyone's name!
8) I could and did finish my iMovie.
By the way - I'm still trying to learn what I learned on Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday, Thursday and today.
Tomorrow, I want to
1) be on the plane and have everything packed that I need.

Day 4 - At this point, I'm not even sure of the date
As tired as I am, I don't feel like taking a nap. This is the only time that I can remember in my over half century of being on this planet that I almost burst out crying thinking about what I had to do. When I worked on my imovie and then looked at the time - already 2 hours had passed, (with only a change in font color to show).I guess the fact that time flies by so quickly is a good thing. The good news is that, thanks to Michelle, the imovie is at least presentable.
I know students pick up on this much faster that I do, but is it worth the time to have imovie presentations? I liked Jason's metaphor (or is it analogy?) about the big amplifier. How do we prevent that from happening? I remember in the days of hyperstudio, that when most of us tried it, we wound up with an inferior product because students were too involved in the bells and whistles and not the content. I'm hoping one of the texts will help with this.
Take-aways:
1) doing an imovie is easier said than done, the good news is that it was easier today than yesterday
2) time is going by too quickly
What I learned Thursday
1) Making a Power Point certificate is not difficult, but with so many options, it's easy to spend a lot of time thinking of something clever and creative. I don't think I did justice to my peer partner, which makes me sad. Perhaps a reminder and some examples could be shown at the beginning of the workshop so some of us could think about it a little longer.
2) We can check out the clickers - I've always thought they would be great to have in a classroom. What a wonderful way to give and receive immediate feedback.
3) You can make a slide of a powerpoint that can be saved and entered into an imovie.
4) Downloading audio clips is fun (thanks for installing the software to make it easy).
5) I won't be able to learn how to use my videocamera and put clips in imovie before the end of the workshop.
6) My brain is really full.
7) I like my unit, and it covers Science and Technology frameworks, but it doesn't cover any specific biology content. Oh well - I'm still going to try it out and see how it goes.
8) It's easier to say woo hoo than arrgh!
9) Today was Joe's birthday. Mary's birthday is later this summer.
By the way - I'm still trying to learn what I learned on Monday,Tuesday and Wednesday.
Tomorrow, I want to
1) learn everyone's name (how hard can this be?)
2) finish my imovie
3) figure out what I need to do and do it before I leave for LA early Saturday morning.

Day 3 - June 14th
Take-aways:
1) remember to bring what I am supposed to blog home so I won't have to come to class and do it.
2) doing an imovie is easier said than done
3) it helps to be in a group where others know more than I do (thanks Renee and Stephanie)
4) time is going by way too quickly
5) storytelling and analytical thinking are at opposite ends - perhaps that is why I'm having problems so far. I really mean this. As a science teacher, I want my students to be analytical so to put concepts in storytelling form is really a stretch. It's probably a good thing since the "hook" is better, but it really takes a lot of thinking and reflection to do.
What I learned Wednesday
1) The keynote was great - Jason has so many pearls of wisdom. Is there a program for putting them on a computer so it flashes and I can be reminded of why I need to change my way of thinking? I wrote several of them down and wish I bought his book
2) Blackboard should be helpful but I need more practice and it's difficult for me not to read every entry.
3) I'm really glad we practiced how to connect multimedia stuff and it didn't take long to do.
By the way - I'm still trying to learn what I learned on Monday and Tuesday
Today, I want to
1) learn how to add sound imported from the net onto my imovie
2) learn everyone's name

learning log for 6/13/06
Wow! Another exhausting day but I don't need a nap.:) The imovie was fun but will take a lot of time. I also have a better appreciation of how to use the camera. I now have my essential question done as well as some guiding questions. This is a huge change in what I planned but it is coming together (I think). There is so much going on and it seems so fast. Sometimes, I feel like I'm being pulled in different directions. I was told how to download my pictures but not given time to do it. There is some handout in the notebook but I don't know or was given the time to find it. I'll do it tonight.
Also, the story map is completely different than what I had planned. I was going to make it pretty straight forward but I'm making it more of a mystery.
Goal tonight: take pictures for the imovie.

Day 1 - Monday, June 12th
Wow! It was an exhausting day! (I had to go home and take a nap). We received so many "tools". It was difficult to process it all. I'm definitely feeling some dysequilibrium but in a good way. The backwards design is such a paradigm shift. It feels right but a little scary. My unit is a lot different that what I planned but it should be a lot better. I like the ice breakers and hope you'll send us a template to use with our students (this includes the April workshop too). I learned more about docks, finder and setting up entourage. I wish that there was more time to explore since I know there's so much more there. Are we going to have more time to do this?
